Russian cyber piracy: Imminent sanctions to come from the US

The US administration is on the verge of announcing the penalties promised by President Barack Obama against Russia for the cyberattacks that disrupted the US presidential election, according to an official US media statement, published on Wednesday.

Russia also warned on Wednesday that it would fight back to the possible sanctions imposed by the US. This reaction occurs after the Congressman Lindsey Graham, a member of the Republican Party, said that Russia must expect tough sanctions as a result of the cyber attacks that occurred during the US election campaign, transmitted Reuters.

‘Frankly, we are tired these lies which are widespread in the US at the highest level, that constantly involve the Russians hackers’, said the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, who qualified the reports about possible new sanctions as a ‘challenge led by the White House’.

Earlier, the Republican congressman Lindsey Graham said that following the cyber attacks during the American campaign ‘will be imposed bipartisan sanctions which will strongly hit strong Russia and especially Putin himself.

‘It is time for Russia to understand – enough is enough! (…) This is what you can expect of the US in 2017: a bipartisan effort in the Congress to respond to Russia’s interference in our elections’, added Graham, demanding a commission to investigate those attacks.

The Democratic US party, including President Barack Obama, have accused Russia of intervening in the election campaign with cyber attacks. The Democrats argued that the objective of this operation was to weaken their candidate, Hillary Clinton, who ultimately lost the elections before Republican Donald Trump.

Moscow authorities have permanently denied these allegations and have urged Washington to prove them or close the subject for good.
