Set to be ready by 2021, the park in Dallas is going to be 11 times bigger than New York’s Central Park. The building is set to have a 10.000 nature district along the Trinity River.
The urban park, which will become the largest one in America, will feature walkways, trees, diverse flora and sports fields.
Harold Simmons’s widow, Annette Simmons, donated last October $50 million for 385 acres of the park. The portion will be dedicated to Harold Simmons and will also have his name. The total cost of this portion is $250 million.
According to Dallas News, more investors are expected to fund the rest of the Harold Simmons Park.
The park will be part of a larger district, the Trinity River Project, which is being in construction since the early 2000’s.
Dallas spent in the June of 2015 $609 million for building trails, a community center, a golf course, a horse park and a bridge in the forested area that spreads on 6-200 acres.
Shops, restaurants, housing and offices are going to be built in the future.
The portion of Harold Simmons Park is designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates Associates.
Some roads will run through the park and visitors will have the chance to take a peek at the park from a pedestrian overpass.
Because the zone is prone to floods, before starting any construction, the US Army Corps of Engineers will have to approve the plan.
The architect in charge of the construction of the plan said that the building will welcome the water. The park will have controlled areas in which the water will be absorbed.
People will be able to walk along the river as well.
The construction is much awaited and according to Rawlings, it will redefine the 21st century Dallas.
