At least 12 cities were isolated due to the heavy rains in southeastern Nicaragua, according to the National System for Prevention, Management and Disaster Warning (Sinapred), quoted by EFE.
Overflowing of the rivers Kama, La Boa and La Pichinga determined the villagers to leave their homes.
The authorities noted that over 200 people were evacuated and 40 houses were flooded in the most affected community, La Fonseca.
The remaining communities, all across the southern Caribbean coast, are Arena, Belén, El Paraíso, El Rosario, Home Creek, La Pichinga, La Zompopa, Neysi Ríos, San Brown, San Ramón and Silico, according to Sinapred.
The constant heavy rainfall is caused by a low-pressure current affecting Nicaragua’s Caribbean coast, as the authorities informed.
Sinapred have not considered it necessary yet to declare a state of emergency in the affected areas.
Local Naval Force has issued a warning for maritime vessels, including restricting small boats from navigating in the Caribbean seas.
The last time when Nicaragua was flooded was when Otto Hurricane hit the South American coast, in August 2015.
The tropical storm raised the risk of floods and landslides, as the international press informed.
In just a few hours in the Dominican Republic have fallen about 15 liters of rain per square meter. Several rivers have burst their banks and flooded multiple towns and villages on the island.
About 20 houses collapsed. Neither of the two mobile networks in the country was working and 80 % of residents had no electricity or water. Several roads were destroyed.
At least four people, including two children, lost their lives as a result of the abundant floods. Another 20 people went missing.
