A pensioner has given a hall new significance to the ‘double parking’ expression after ending up on top of some other vehicle and mistaking the accelerator pedal with the brake.

The unbelievable pictures capture the crash which featured the aged woman climbing on the unlucky motorist’s roof.

Her failed attempt to park in the parking lot from Dumbarton, near Glasgow of The Quay eatery, yesterday afternoon, was reported to Daily Record in short notice.

But disaster struck when the bewildered motorist set her foot back on the accelerator rather than the brake – turning the speed to 30mph.

The front bonnet of the silver car was ruined with several other parts, including the wheels and the front windscreen of the parked vehicle.

The pictures following the event reveal the shaken-up motorist while being consoled by police officers sitting on the passenger seat.

Alan Hutchison, who saw the event, wrote on Facebook: ‘Complete belter. Girl rescinded what seems like about 30 miles per hour went through the hedge and onto the other automobile.’

‘I do feel awful for her but happy she is okay. I also feel sorry for the individual who parked behind her.’

Marie-Claire Lindsay wrote: ‘I discovered there were plans for a multi-storey car park in the high street, but did not realise it was so shortly.’
