One obsession legendary Microsoft founder has for a long time is the future. He often collaborates with inventors and technological innovators, goes through many books about the future of mankind and starts project intended to advance communities.

And after all his experiences in the area, he reached the conclusion that three educational backgrounds are the most useful in the near future of job markets: science, engineering, and economics.

Those who will excel in these domains will be “the agents of change for all institutions,” he argued in an interview with Daniel Roth, an executive at Linkedin.

“I do think of basic knowledge of the sciences, math skills, economics, a lot of careers in the future will be very demanding on those things,” he added.

You don’t have to be the total authority on these subjects like coding and the periodic table, but having the understating of what experts in these areas do will help your job development in a very important way.

“It’s not necessarily that you’ll be writing code, but you need to understand what can engineers do and what can they not do,” the billionaire innovator said.

Since leaving day-to-day operations at Microsoft, Gates has continued his philanthropy and works on other projects.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Gates was the world’s highest-earning billionaire in 2013, as his fortune increased by US$15.8 billion to US$78.5 billion. As of January 2014, most of Gates’ assets are held in Cascade Investment LLC, an entity through which he owns stakes in numerous businesses, including Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and Corbis Corp.
