HMD reveals its first Nokia 150 phone, but don"t get too excited

HMD Global has announced their first phone to emerge from the 10-year licensing arrangement announced earlier this month.

The new Nokia 150 and its dual SIM version are worth $26.  Marketed as ‘affordable and durable,’ these devices spark nostalgia for Nokia’s old reliable mobile phones, and have a familiar user interface. As for the specifications, the phone is equipped with a 2.4″ display, physical keypad, Bluetooth, FM radio, MP3 player, and a micro SD slot and do not offer Internet access.

Thankfully, the phone charges with a standard micro-USB cable, there is a VGA camera on the back.

Although in this day and age of smartphones, the Nokia 150 can be considered a ‘dumb phone’, the battery life cited is outstanding. The talk time is up to 22 hours, while standby is up to 31 days for the single SIM and 25 days for the dual SIM version. The best part is that you can play Snake Xenzia.

This launch represents an important milestone in Nokia’s evolution after famously exited the smartphone market when it sold its mobile phone unit to Microsoft in a $7.2 billion deal back in 2014.

The basic phone business currently makes most of its sales in India and eastern Europe. Nokia was once the world’s dominant cellphone maker but denied the shift to smartphones.

The new Nokia 150 will be available next year in Europe, Asia and Africa.
