Carles Puidegmont, summoned by the Spanish Supreme Court to return into his country by the end of the week, otherwise he will end up behind bars

Carles Puigdemont and 13 other members of his government are being summoned by the Spanish Supreme Court.

Puigdemont and his politicians are being forced by the authorities to face the judges by the end of this week.

In addition, the Catalan leader and the government members must pay up to the Spanish government no less than 6.2 million euros to cover all the damages caused by their controversial referendum, writes BBC News.

Apparently, the Catalan senator is currently traveling to Belgium and he has three days to make the deposit before the judges take action.

The censure on the Catalan leaders follows the Spanish’ chief prosecutor’s decision, who said on Monday he would demand the indictment of the former Catalan executive for rebellion.

These days, Puigdemont is in Belgium with some of his former ministers to hold a press conference.

During the press conference, Puidegmont mentioned that he is not there to seek for asylum.

However, Carles Puigdemont revealed his plans of remaining in Belgium until the situation in Spain becomes “safer”, but also because the Spanish justice would be “politicized”.

Carles Puigdemont triggered a crisis in Spain by organizing a referendum on independence in early October, despite opposition from Madrid and the Constitutional Court that declared the vote illegal.
