A South African judge has decided to increase the initial sentence of the world’s most famous Paralympic athlete, Oscar Pistorius.

After becoming condemned to six years in jail for killing his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp, the South African judges reconsidered their first decision, reaching to the conclusion his first punishment was too permissive.

The Paralympic champion shot the late model and public figure four times, through the door of his toilet on the night of 13th February 2013.

In the first phase of the legal proceedings, the athlete was sentenced to five years behind bars for “involuntary murder”, but meantime, the Prosecutor’s Office in Johannesburg made an appeal and obtained the permission of prolonging his sentence.

Pistorius was transferred in 2016 to a new prison specially built for people with disabilities.

“His new prison is designed for people with specific needs and has been completely restored with facilities for people with disabilities”, explained Singabakho Nxumalo, the spokesperson of the South African prison services.
