Celino Villaneuva Jaramillo, a 121-year-old Chilean, is the oldest man in the world, according to Chilean officials.
However, The Guardian writes the man is not recognized by The Book of Records.
Don Celino, as everyone calls him, claims he was born on July 25, 1896, and even though all of his papers disappeared in a fire that destroyed his house 22 years ago, the Chilean authorities have checked the man’s history and released an identity card last year that says he was born 121 years ago.
“We checked in the archives, and Celino Villanueva Jaramillo was born on July 25, 1896, and he is still alive”, explained Jacqueline Salinas, one of the employees of the Chilean Institute of Statistics.
Don Celino was born in the city of Rio Bueno, nearly 30 kilometers from the Valdivia regional capital.
The year of 1896, when Don Celino was born, was the year of the first modern Olympics, the year in which Utah became the 45th American state, the year in which Queen Victory became the longest-running British monarch, and Ford produced its first motorized vehicle.
Many details related to his youth are not known because it is difficult to communicate with him, but what is known for sure is the fact that he worked in agriculture.
He never got married and had no children.
At the age of 99, his house was engulfed by a huge fire and he was about to lose his life after he suffered burns and inhaled large amounts of smoke.
When he was 115, he was visited by President Sebastián Piñera, and last year the Chilean Justice Minister handed out his new identity card personally.
