“Messi should win Ballon d’Or every year’’

One of the most important awards in Football is the Ballon d’Or and many talented and successful players entry the fight for the title of the best Football player.

Josep Maria Bartomeu, the president of FC Barcelona, has declared this Tuesday that the Golden Ball should belong to the Football Superstar Lionel Messi. His words come in response to the results of this year’s winner.

The prize for the year of 2016 was given to the Portuguese  Cristiano Ronaldo, member of Real Madrid.

In a press conference, Bartomeu argued that Messi should receive the Golden Ball every year.

“He is the best player in Football history and when he will retire, many years later, his success will carry on” are the words of the president.

He also added that although there are many other great Football players, Messi is number 1 and that could not be changed.

For the past nine years, the prize was passed back and forth between Lionel and Cristiano.

Cristiano Ronaldo has received this year his fourth Golden Ball but has not yet defeated his Argentinian rival, who won this prize 5 times.  Messi’s record has not been beaten by anyone yet.

Barca criticized this decision after Messi’s performance on Sunday at the derby with Espanyol, where he made a spectacular move, which led to marking after dribbling four members of the other team.  The game ended with the victory of Messi’s team and a score of 4 to 1.
