On Thursday, US President Barack Obama defended his actions in a letter addressed to all Americans especially the Obamacare program that his successor Donald Trump has promised to cancel, reports AFP.
The White House released the letter of the President accompanied by a series of reports from each ministry since he stepped into the Oval Office eight years ago when the largest world economy was on the verge of a serious crisis.
“Given that I prepare to hand the reins and to fulfill my duty as a citizen, I am proud to say that we have built a new foundation for America,” wrote the 44th US president.
Among the main achievements of his administration, he cites US economic recovery, reducing military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, a net reduction of dependence on foreign oil and the Paris climate agreement.
But the health insurance reform, “Affordable Care Act” (2010), known as Obamacare, the one that Donald Trump wants to repeal after his investiture on 20 January is listed among his top achievements.
Obama launched an offensive before his departure in an attempt to save the reform, the centerpiece of its balance sheet.
This visit coincided with the Congress elected Vice President Mike Pence arrival, who came for a meeting with the Republican lawmakers who control both houses.
“The repeal of the Obamacare is the first thing on the agenda. Architecture version replacement will be formed by legislative procedure, in the weeks and months ahead,” said Mike Pence.
Trump himself has previously drawn attention to any precipitated actions advising Republicans on Twitter to let Obamacare “to collapse under its own weight.”
