It’s a fact: Dogs prefer to listen to reggae and soft rock

Many dog owners may think that their four-legged friends prefer to listen only to classical music.

This fact was confirmed by some researchers in the past.

But, a new study has shown that these animals do not dislike at all modern music.

Dogs like to listen to rock or reggae songs, according to a recent study performed by scientists at Glasgow University.

Experts have discovered that reggae and soft rock music causes major changes in the behavior of dogs, in positive terms.

So, the Scottish NGO that led the study plans to install speakers in all its dogs’ shelters.

Consequently, the ‘homeless’ dogs will listen to songs from artists such as Bob Marley and Jon Bon Jovi.

‘In general, the responses of dogs to different genres was diverse, highlighting the possibility that, as in humans, our canine friends have their own tastes in music’, said a leading author of this research.

‘Reggae music and soft rock caused the most obvious frequent behavioral changes, in positive terms.’

‘Some evidence revealed by the researchers suggested that the effect of relaxing music is related to aspects of rhythm and repetition. It is possible that reggae music and soft rock clearly express these things’, added the scientist.

The research follows a study performed in 2015 by the same institution.

Back then, researchers have discovered that classical music has a calming effect on dogs.

A group of dogs was observed in silence for a week, while another group was exposed to sounds of classical music.

The following week the two groups exchanged places.

Consequently, the results showed that the stress levels of the quadrupeds living in dog shelters significantly decreased after listening to music.
