73-year-old Alexander Van der Bellen is the new President of Austria
The investiture ceremony of the new state leader takes place in the middle of a massive political crisis.
The tensions between the two coalition partners generate speculations regarding an anticipated presidential election.
Van der Bellen is an independent politician, who defeated the far-right threat.
Especially, after the Austrian Government organized two presidential ballots in less than a year.
“I promise to follow the fundamental law with loyalty and all the laws of the republic. I will fulfill my role with conscience”, declared the President in front of the Parliament.
The new state leader won near thing
Despite the popularity of the far-right representative Norbert Hofer, the supreme magistrates decided the invalidation of the presidential election.
The decision was adopted after an irregularity during the counting of the ballots process was discovered.
The election was resumed on 4th December and Van der Bellen managed to win a bigger score in comparison to Norbert Hofer.
Austria is celebrating
The president’s victory was greeted with enthusiasm by the political formations from Austria and Europe.
Alexander Van der Bellen was born during the Second World War from a Russian father and an Estonian mother.
The Red Army forced his family to leave in the Tyrolienne region, where Van der Bellen spent most of his childhood.
During the investiture ceremony, the new Austrian president highlighted he is a ‘refugee newborn’.
Despite the fact he was not happy about the results, Norbert Hofer took the time to congratulate his former opponent.
