The railway company NS, based in Netherlands, came up with an interesting announcement.
All electrical trains will be 100% powered by wind energy.
This strategy began in 2015 and was completed a year before the officials of the project have planned.
‘Starting January 1, 2017, all our trains are 100% powered by the wind energy’. The statement was according to Ton Boon, the spokesman of the Dutch railway company, NS.
Back in 2015, NS has become the business partner of Eneco electricity company.
The major purpose of this partnership had been supplying all the passengers’ trains in Netherlands with wind power until January 2018.
Half of the trains was already loaded at that moment.
However, in order to fulfill this dream, it was either required the construction of several wind parks or importing the wind energy from its neighboring countries, such as Denmark.
But, due to the unexpected increase in the number of wind systems, making the switch to green energy happened a year earlier.
According to the railway company and its partner, Eneco, around 600,000 passengers are using the railway infrastructure on a daily basis.
Also, an hour rotation of a wind plant can power a train for traveling over a distance of 200 km.
Dutch history on wind energy has been very well known for the last three centuries.
They got used to extracting water from windmills for producing flour with the help of wind pumps.
Such a trend may extend at a global level.
In 2016, Costa Rica was able to go 250 days without using fossil fuels. They only used wind, hydropower and geothermal energy.
Also, Scotland generated during a single windy day more wind than the consumption of the entire country.
In 2015, Denmark produced 42% wind energy of the total energy produced by the country. This happened given that two of the largest wind parks were not functioning at that time.
