Syrian and Iraqi refugees were offered citizenship by Turkish president

Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that some refugees that pass screenings will get citizenship so that their skills can be used for the country.

On Friday, the president held a speech on a television broadcast, that they are going to run some security checks and the ones that qualify will get a Turkish citizenship. There are millions of Syrian and Iraqi refugees in Turkey.

“There are highly qualified people among them, there are engineers, lawyers, doctors. Let’s make use of that talent …Instead of letting them work illegally here and there, let’s give them the chance to work as citizens like the children of this nation,” declared Erdogan.

The ministry will take care of the screenings and can start doing it at any time, according to the president. Erdogan did not add any further information about the number of citizenships.

There are about 3 million refugees that have created conflict.

In the summer of 2016, the president wanted to establish naturalisation, but protestants and others weren’t happy about the idea.

The opposition think Erdogan is taking this measures to enlarge his power, especially now as he plans a constitutional reform.

Turkey has been recently involved in many problems. Several attacks took place in the country and many people have lost their life. President Erdogan is blamed by many for his reforms and believe he is one of the reasons for the attacks.

The country was really talked about after the Russian minister was shot to death in Ankara.

Turkey also worked with Russia to establish peace talks in the war-thorn Syria.
