Militants will require the legalization of marijuana at a federal level in the United States.
Activists from the DC Cannabis Coalition, who militate for the legalization of marijuana, are intending to distribute free joints during the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump.
DC Group plans to distribute free joints starting 8 a.m. on January 20, the date of the investiture ceremony of Donald Trump, in the west of Dupont Circle in DC, where marijuana for recreational and leisure purposes is legal.
Then, the demonstrators will go to the National Mall, where the protest will continue. “The main message is that it’s time to legalize cannabis at the federal level”, said Adam Eidinger, founder of DCMJ, a group of residents in Washington, who introduced and contributed to the Initiative 71, a historical document seeking the legalization of the drug.
Moreover, Initiative 71 has given the citizens the right to grow and provide marijuana, but not to sell it. Eidinger is concerned, however, that these advances will be in vain for the next presidential administration since the President-elect Donald Trump appointed Jeff Sessions as the US General Attorney.
4,200 joints will be distributed, ensured Eidinger. Then, 4 minutes and 20 seconds after Trump’s speech (420 is internationally known as the code for marijuana), protestors will be encouraged to light up their joints.
This action is illegal. If someone is willing to take part in this action, they will risk being arrested. Eidinger also said that this is not an anti-Trump event or an attempt to disrupt the ceremony. Everyone is welcomed.
“If there are people of Texas, fans of those legendary cowboys, men walking in the streets with a cowboy hat and a fur coat that happen to join our demonstration, I want them to feel welcomed in Washington”, Eidinger confessed, according to usatoday.com.
