Amusement park goers were given an unwanted surprise on Friday, as a Knott’s Berry Farm ride experienced an untimely malfunction, leaving 21 people suspended 100 feet in the air for well over six hours as a result.

Children and adults alike were affected by this freak occurrence and firefighters were enlisted to rescue all 21 people as quickly as possible. The Sky Cabin ride is a slow moving ride, but this fact was of little solace to those who were left to hug firefighters tightly as they were lowered from their temporary prison with the use of harnesses.

While firefighters briefly considered the usage of a cherry picker crane to remove the trapped riders, they elected to utilize the ropes instead. These fun seekers are probably in desperate need of a meal and a bathroom break, but according to the Orange County park officials and authorities who were dispatched to the scene, they are no worse for the wear.

The slow moving attraction places the ride inside of a circular tram, where they travel in an upward motion through a large cylinder. Since the ride is fully enclosed, it is considered to be more like being inside of a room than an amusement park attraction and the ride is meant to provide a 360 degree view of the Los Angeles basin, Catalina Island and Orange County.

No immediate word was provided regarding the cause of the ride’s breakdown and fortunately, a ride operator was among the group of stranded fun seekers, allowing them to remain in constant contact with the ground.
