A comedy sketch of ‘Real Housewives of ISIS’ drives people mad for how ‘tasteless and insensitive’ it is.
The sketch appeared on BBC’s Facebook page and viewers are not happy about it. It is meant to ridicule the American series that picture wealthy housewives from New York or Los Angeles.
This one features Muslim women that talk and act exactly like the American ones. They take selfies in suicide vests, talk about fashion and their many husbands.
Although the sketch was meant to be funny, the backlash it received is huge.
One character starts crying as she talks about husband’s “40 virgins”, that refers to the promise suicide bombers receive in paradise.
The women are jihadi brides. One of them sports husband’s “gift”, a suicide vest while her two friends film her and promise to post it on Instagram with the “Jihadi Jane” hashtag.
People think that this adds to the “negative stereotype” women with hijabs receive and called the sketch “morally bankrupt” for mocking the struggling women from Syria.
While the most are not happy about it, some called it “brave” and have praised it.
Even though it received a lot of negativity, the video features funny lines. One woman jokes: “It’s only three days until the beheading and I’ve got no idea what I’m gonna wear,” while another says ‘I have been widowed five times,’ before hearing a bomb explode and rectifying “six times”.
Two women proceed to have a fight after one of them appears wearing the same suicide vest, while two others mumble “awkward”.
The post received many negative commentaries, but one Muslim said: “I am a Muslim and I am not gonna lie I was laughing so much not because they are mocking Islam (which frankly they are not, as it has nothing to do with Islam) but because they are mocking terrorism. Ignorance is the root cause of all terrorism.”
