Blood sugar levels will be very soon measured without pricking your finger with the lancet. Diabetics know for sure what this means: bye-bye blood and needles!

The integrity Applications Israeli company has recently started the legal proceedings in order to obtain the necessary FDA authorization for marketing the device they produced in the United States.

Glucotrack is a device designed to measure your blood sugar levels without stinging your fingertip.

GlucoTrack allows the user to monitor his blood glucose, but without the need to have his blood collected on the testing strip.

The user wears a clip on the ear and the device uses a combination of sensors to determine his blood sugar levels. The data collected by the clip is then transmitted to another device, the size of a smartphone. GlucoTrack needs to be calibrated every six months and this process, however, still involves taking blood samples.

GluckoTrack is designed to simultaneously perform three independent measurements using the thermal technology, ultrasound technology and the electromagnetic one, explains the manufacturer’s website.

‘The results are interpreted using a patented algorithm that enables the reading and then displays the results on a colored touchscreen. The result is announced in loud voice also and it thus could be used by the blind’.

The device is already marketed in several countries, according to some statements issued by Integrity Applications. The company is in advanced discussions with a major hospital and a university in the United States in order to achieve the clinical trials required for obtaining the FDA authorization.

Measuring blood sugar levels without using needles is a very tempting challenge, but still daunting, so the world is still expecting a simple and accurate measure to be allowed, despite all the attempted ones.
