Later this week, FBI ‘teamed up’ with Europol and decided to launch a public prevention campaign in order to ‘raise awareness of the risk of young adults getting involved in cybercrime.’

The two major security giants came up with a very original idea: a comparison between a hacker and an IT specialist, which was meant to raise awareness and drag teenagers away from cybercrime.

‘So, what’s it gonna be?’, asked FBI. Are you going to live a life with ‘many careers and professional opportunities’ or end up in prison with ‘no access to the internet’?

FBI and Europol also launched a ‘gif’ to increase the campaign’s popularity.

‘The teenagers that become involved in cyber crime often have a skill set that could be put to a positive use’, stated Europol in a press conference.

The campaign was quickly spread among young people and reached the whole world.

Europol and other law enforcement agencies in Australia, Belgium, France, Hungary, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom and the United States held a joint action which targeted teenagers worldwide, in order to prevent them from committing cyber crime.

During the action, the European Cybercrime Centre of Europol supported national efforts of the participating countries to identify suspected hackers, both in Europe and the U.S., by organizing operational and analytical meetings.

‘Many teenagers get involved in cyber attacks for fun or out of a desire to show their IT knowledge, without realizing the full consequences of their actions. However, the penalties are severe and can have negative implications on their future’, declared an official source of Europol.
