Only a few months away before Trump takes over the White House, Barack Obama did not hesitate to make important decisions during his ‘last’ hours.

Obama announced on Tuesday that he will ban all drilling activities in the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans for the next five years, thus the oil companies not be allowed to work in the restricted areas until 2022. The decision will be applied if it passes the federal courts.

Specifically, Obama’s plan involves preventing the activity of oil drilling in the Beaufort Sea and the Chukchi and expansion in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

However, drilling will be allowed in the Gulf of Mexico, which means that the location will be the only one where we could see underwater explorations for oil.

‘Given the uniqueness of Arctic environment and the lower interests in industry for this area, giving up drilling is the best way to progress’, declared the head of internal affairs.

Besides the fact that this decision is a victory for those who fight against global warming, you should know that the price of oil falls and renewable energy is becoming more and more accessible.

For various reasons, US oil production has increased, even though the oil imports in other countries has fell. Reducing oil consumption was one of the targets of Barack Obama, but his plans were not the same as the Supreme Court’s.
