Christmas is the period during which, willy-nilly, we eat more than usual and, what is worse, is that we are eating unhealthy dishes.

Tasty ones, nothing to say, but full of calories and fats.

Here are 5 unhealthy foods to avoid eating this Christmas.

Gingerbread

A classic Christmas dessert, but so caloric! Glazed in different flavors, full of sugar, fat and butter, gingerbread is not at all the healthiest option for dessert. A small portion can reach 260 calories and 12 grams of fat.

Caramelized apples

What’s Christmas without the tasty caramelized apples? You are allowed not to give up this dessert, but you should choose the healthier option, that is the one without the traditional caramel topping. Baked apples are full of vitamins and fiber and it’s even advisable to eat them, but not covered with caramel sauce.

Mashed potatoes

Mashed potatoes never hurt anyone, but eating this with a Christmas steak and other dishes high in calories, will only hinder your digestion. Prepared with milk, butter and salt, mashed potatoes can reach 250 calories per serving. You’d better choose boiled or baked potatoes.

Panettone

Lots of unhealthy sugar and butter – this is panettone. Do not be fooled by the pieces of dried fruits in it; a slice contains about 300 calories and you can raise your cholesterol levels by up to 110 milligrams.

Mulled wine

Wine, especially red, is good for the heart, has no fat and a cup contains only 100 calories. The problem is that mulled wine comes with a lot of sugar. During Christmas time, when almost everything you eat abound in calories, it’s better to enjoy your mulled wine with less sugar and more cinnamon, cloves and other flavors.
