The first Black woman to be portrayed on Us currency

For a while, officials wanted to have a woman portrayed on American currency. Now, this has finally happened. Lady Liberty will be very first Black woman that will appear on currency.

The United States Mint and Treasury revealed the gold coin that features her face. This is not only a big step for the US, but for women everywhere also. The fact that the woman featured is Black is even more encouraging.

At the Cash Room, the department hold a conference. This Tuesday they announced that as 225 years are celebrated since coins are minted in the state, they want to celebrate by introducing a woman. The coin introduced is 2017 American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin.

Director Jeppson said that him and his colleagues are incredibly proud. “Our founding fathers realized the critical need for our fledgling nation to have a respected monetary system, and over the last 225 years, the Mint has never failed in its mission, “added Jeppson.

The design is also new from the classic coins. The Black woman features a crown of stars on her head. For celebrating the year when coins began minting in US, they scribed year 1792. To keep the tradition, “In God We Trust” is also featured on the gold coin. While one side features the woman, the other portrays a “bold and powerful eagle in flight.”

The coin will be produced of 24K gold. Other women will be portrayed in the 24-karat series: Lady Liberty will appear as Indian-American, Hispanic-American and Asian-American.

On the $20 bill, Andrew Jackson will be replaced by Harriet Tubman, announced the officials last year.
