iOS 10.3 will upgrade to a modern file system

iOS 10.3 will bring a massive upgrade to all iPhone users, considering that it’s newest update comes up with a new file system.

The news already waited several years to come.

Although Apple had another attempt in the past to introduce a new file system for iOS, the idea was not turned into reality.

Finally hitting the markets

During WWDC 2016, some Apple officials have brought the audience the good news.

So, Apple will come up with a brand new file system in 2017 and the surprise package will be delivered together with iOS 10.3.

The new function, known as APFS, is an acronym for Apple File System.

The biggest advantage of introducing it is that all the support functions will improve.

This means the system will support stocking solid-state units and encryption, improving data integrity.

It will replace HFS system, the current one Apple had used already for 19 years.

The newest version, initiated by APFS was introduced in MacOS Sierra so developers would be able to test the system.

But, unfortunately, it has been intentionally restricted in several ways.

It couldn’t be used for booting, was not fully compatible with Fusion Drivers. Also, it did not allow backups with Time Machine.

Furthermore, Apple showed in its press release that when iPhone users will update to iOS 10.3, the smartphone will automatically change its file system to APFS.

The conversion will keep all your data on your phone. But, it is highly recommended to backup your data before beginning the update.

The main target of introducing this kind of file system offers a conversion to all your Apple devices. This includes TVs, watches, smartphones and iPads.
