SpaceX finally launches rocket

After the explosion it experienced in September, SpaceX finally launched a rocket into the space. On Saturday, Falcon 9 rocket was launched with all of its ten communication satellites.

One of its rockets launched ten minutes later on a platform in the Pacific Ocean. Falcon 9 was supposed to be launched earlier, but in September a similar one caught fire and exploded in Florida. The company lost then a $200 million communication satellite. Until now, they worked hard to ensure that the incident won’t happen again.

This week, they wanted to send it into space earlier, but the heavy rain, clouds and the strong winds made it impossible.

Elon Musk, SpaceX’s CEO, plans on cutting the costs by reusing rockets. Musk said that the cost of launching could be cut off by much. This way, more access to the space will be available. They want to develop more vehicles that can be reused as soon as possible.

The main goal of the rocket was to launch the ten satellites into the constellation. They are part of the “NEXT” constellation. Sixty more are planned. They will be launched with Falcon 9 too. SpaceX plans on replacing Iridium, that is communicating network currently available in space, with NEXT. It “will dramatically enhance Iridium’s ability to meet the growing demand for global mobile communications on land, at sea and in the skies,” said the officials about Next.

When all the satellites will be finally launched, ‘Next’ will be the largest satellite constellation in the world.
