Terrible blow for Theresa May: she must follow the Parliament’s will for triggering Brexit

The British Prime-Minister, Theresa May, must obey the common will of the Parliament. This should happen in the case of triggering the exit procedure of Britain from the European Union.

So, the British Parliament must authorize the activation of Article 50 from Lisbon Treaty. The article ‘unleashes’ the process of Britain leaving the EU.

The decision was made on Tuesday by the Supreme Justice Court, informed AFP.

Furthermore, together with this decision, the court has rejected the recall filed by the London government against an anterior decision.

The file obliged the government to consult the deputies before invoking Article 50, part of the Lisbon Treaty, that allows negotiations regarding a country’s desire to leave the common block.

Also, the critics, especially supported by the Scotian government, showed that the Constitution’s principles are obliging May to submit to the Parliament’s vote before turning to Article 50.

Although the Supreme Court in London has decided that the Parliament will have the last word, the government still recalled the court.

Now, Theresa May will definitely need the Parliament’s support to bring forward Britain’s leaving process from the EU. This action will leave the door open for the critics of the regime.

EU’s opposition

The President of the European People’s Party, Manfred Weber, has requested on Tuesday that Theresa May should attend a debate in Strasbourg in April.

Consequently, after the meeting, the Eurodeputies will have the final decision in the palm of their hands.

We recall that Theresa May has pleaded on January 17^th for a ‘clear rupture’ from the EU.

Also, she confirmed that by the end of March,  the process of separation will definitely be triggered. This will allow the start of the negotiations regarding a ‘break up’ agreement with Bruxelles.
