Iran agreement: EU contacted Donald Trump to eliminate ‘misunderstandings’

The European Union has informally contacted Donald Trump’s team to eliminate any ‘misunderstanding’.

Consequently, EU officials’ target was making light on the agreement regarding the Iranian nuclear program.

Apparently, the program has harshly criticized the President-elect of the United States.

The conflict was made known on Tuesday by a European diplomatic source, according to AFP.

Furthermore, the EU foreign policy leader, Federica Mogherini, insisted on Monday that the EU will comply with this ‘extremely important’ agreement. In her view, the document demonstrates that diplomacy is effective.

The treaty was signed in July 2015, between Tehran and the six major world powers the US, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany. The agreement was weakened by the recurring criticisms made by Donald Trump.

For example, in an interview published on Monday by The Times, Donald Trump said he sees this agreement as ‘one of the worst agreements ever and one of the most stupid.

Also, Trump refused to say whether or not he will put it into question.

Furthermore, the contacts between the EU and the future US administration aimed to explain the ‘added value of the agreement’.

The information was discovered according to a European diplomatic source, who wished to remain anonymous.

‘There are many misunderstandings. It is a multilateral agreement. If a party gives it up, others can do the same’, added the source.

Also, the source stated that the EU ‘will work together with China and Russia’ in that file.

The nuclear program

The agreement is considered truly important for the world because it can help avoiding a major crisis.

On 16 January 2016, many of the international sanctions that have hit Iran were raised in return for limiting its nuclear program, as it was stipulated in the agreement.

The general manager of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Yukiya Amano, took the floor.

Tehran has transferred ‘all centrifuges and surplus equipment from its site in Fordo to its site in Natanz. This operation happened to allow the uranium enrichment.
