Facebook announces its measures against false news in Germany

Facebook has launched its newest campaign. They have started fighting against the false news in Germany. The country will hold elections in September.

The announcement came on Sunday on the most frequently used socializing platform.

The internet giant has already started acting in the United States regarding counterattacking the problem of false news spread by the means of Facebook.

Facebook has now sought help from an organization entitled Correctiv. The organization will review the content posted in Germany and reported by users.

So, Correctiv will mark the inappropriate content as ‘doubtful’ if necessary, reports DPA.

Stopping false news

As in the US, Facebook is trying to stop the possibility for some people to make money by spreading false news in Germany.

The company has been strongly accused of doing nothing to counter attack the false news during the US presidential election.

As a result, Facebook tightens the security measures in Germany, before the parliamentary elections in September.

Although the potentially false news will be marked, they will not only be removed from the platform. Unless, they will violate the security policies.

‘The post itself will not disappear from the platform, we won’t hide it, people can still share it’, said the Facebook manager, Guido Buelow, in an official statement.

He also added that the items that are not trustworthy may have a lower visibility.

Correctiv will not gain money from Facebook.

‘We are sure that it will be done whatever is necessary to combat the spreading of misleading news on social networks’, has declared David Schraven, the leader of Correctiv.
