A restaurant from Madrid is taking the example from Robin Hood and feeds the homeless for free.

What the restaurant does is charge the wealthy and feed those in need. The ones that take breakfast and lunch and pay have their money pay for dinner for the homeless.

The place has become really popular. The staff comes from luxury hotels and every week, different chefs come and cook.

Clients that pay are booked until the end of March.

The restaurant opened in December. An 80-year-old Catholic priest is the one that runs the business. Ángel García Rodriguez is his name, but people often call him “Padre Angel”.

The 80-year-old man said that he wants the homeless to feel the same as the other clients. He wants them to be treated the same and enjoy the same atmosphere.

Rodriguez also opened a center in an abandoned church.

People can enjoy television, coffee and a place to sleep for free 24 hours a day.

One night, a man called Luis Gallardo, who is homeless and wore two coats, was greeted kindly by the staff. He was offered a hot meal. He goes to the Robin Hood restaurant pretty often and the staff is already used to him.

Gallardo said that it feels like Christmas every time he goes to the restaurant. He used to run a firm with 60 employees before he went bankrupt.

Only two years ago, he had a home and a wife. He had to sell his house and his wife left him.

“My future is now. I can’t even talk about tomorrow. I’d like to know, but I don’t what it holds,” said Gallardo.

Every night, the restaurant feeds about 100 people in need.

  1. WE HAD A LOCAL COUPLE THAT WOULD GET RESTAURANTS TO DONATE THEIR 'LEFT OVER' MEALS THAT COULD NO LONGER BE SERVED BECAUSE NEW SERVINGS WERE REPLACING THEM. THEY DISTRIBUTED THEM, STILL HOT, TO THE SOUP KITCHENS. RESTAURANTS GOT CHARITY RECEIPTS FOR TAX DEDUCTIONS TO REPLACE THEIR SLOP BUCKETS!
