Believe it or not, many celebrities suffer from mental problems. Some of them choose to share their unfortunate battle, others prefer to play strong, trying hard to hide the disease.
Mental illnesses affect many people of the world’s population, such as bipolar disorder, anxiety or depression. The following celebrities have realized that this kind of problems can really mess up your life if not treated on time.
- Catherine Zeta-Jones
The actress has struggled for a long time with bipolar disorder, but it was only in 2011 when she chose to speak about her diagnosis: ‘It was an intense period. You find out who you really are and who you’re married to. You discover things within you that you had no clue were there’.
- Halle Berry
After divorcing her husband, David Justice, in 1997, the actress went through a dark period. Immediately after the divorce was pronounced, she attempted to commit suicide, but the help of a specialist she managed to overcome depression.
- Owen Wilson
The movie star from ‘Wedding Crashers’ was also challenged by depression. Owen attempted to commit suicide, but his family supported and helped him to overcome that bleak period. According to ‘People’ magazine, during his youth he had another similar period, due to his drug addiction.
- Emma Thompson
The actress recounted she was facing a depression that was so strong she could not get out of bed for weeks. The main cause was her divorcing from Kenneth Branagh. Emma added that she had to seek help from a psychotherapist, but she was lucky enough to soon find her second love, actor Greg Wise, who helped her overcome the crisis.
