British Prime Minister Theresa May gave assurances on Friday on a telephone conversation with the European Union leaders that her government maintains ‘unmodified’ the Brexit calendar outbreak after the decision on Thursday by the High Court in London which ruled that the executive must obtain the consent of parliament before invoking Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon, wrote Reuters.

The government’s timetable for the Article 50 notification remains unchanged, namely end-March 2017 was confirmed by the head of the British government, of Angela Merkel and the European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker, said a statement issued by Downing Street.

It adds that May will discuss later in the day with the French President Francois Hollande and with the European Council President Donald Tusk.

According to the same press release, Theresa May said that although her government is disappointed by the decision of the three judges of the High Court, there are solid legal grounds for an appeal to the Supreme Court – to be reviewed in early December- declaring herself confident in a verdict favorable to the government.

According to a spokesman for British Prime Minister, quoted by Reuters, she stressed in talks with German Chancellor and the EU President, the British government, not parliament, is the one who should be responsible for activating Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon.

The spokesman declined to say whether the government is currently drawing up plans for a possible failure of the Supreme Court, which would allow parliament to delay the onset of Britain’s divorce to the EU.
