Nowadays, for $50 almost anyone can purchase a smartphone with an HD display and fast data services.
Unfortunately, these features may come together with a secret option: a backdoor that transmits all your data and text messages back to China every 72 hours, as New York Times writes.
An American security organization discovered the pre-installed software on a number of devices based on an Android operating system meant to monitories everything. From the places where users go to people whom they text and speak with.
The American authorities are still investigating the case, while the Beijing Government failed to make any comment regarding the matter.
Foreign customers who use Android phones are the most exposed. However, the exact number of phones infected with this malware program is still unclear.
Shanghai Adups Technology, the Chinese company that produced the software claims the code runs on over 700 million devices, from mobile devices and other smart technology devices.
American producer BLU Products announced that more than 120,000 phones are infected and they were forced to come up with a software update to fix the problem.
Kryptowire, the security society that discovered the problem, announced that Adups software transmitted the entire contents, messages, contact lists, call logs, locations of customers and other data to a server in China. The code is preinstalled on the smartphones, while the customers have no idea that they are supervised.
′Even if you wanted to know, you couldn′t′, reported the American security company.
According to security experts, Adups created a special software that allowed the Chinese producer to supervise their users, according to a document where they explained the problem to BLU executives.
