Regarding Vladimir Putin’s origins and family there are numerous rumors. In addition, the fact that the Kremlin leader is so private regarding his personal life does is feeding these rumors even more.

A couple of years ago, the Russian press wrote that Putin’s mother is actually from Georgia and she left Vladimir in an orphanage when he was just 10 years old.

According to a source inside, Vladimir Putin is actually Romanian. The president’s great-great-grandfather was from Basarabia, Romania and his name was Vladimirovich Putina.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin was born in 1952 in Leningrad, now, St. Petersburg. The Russian president grew up in a residential neighborhood. After the Revolution in 1917, however, the building in which Vladimir spent his childhood was nationalized and apartments were offered to factory workers.

Putin’s parents moved there in 1944 and shared the apartment on the fifth floor with two families. There were no elevators, sink or stove and most times, the residents lacked hot water. The young Vladimir and other boys his age used to hunt rats on the stairwell.
