Donna Karan “has just destroyed her empire” – is the assertion made by an expert after the fashion designer made several claims in which she defended Harvey Weinstein, the producer accused of sexually harassing numerous women from the movie industry.

She later apologized, but the consequences triggered by her initial statement placed the legendary designer into a not-so-great light.

The American designer shocked the public opinion after she has decided to take Harvey Weinstein’s, by stating the behavior of certain women ca be interpreted as ‘inviting’.

“I think we have to look at ourselves. Obviously, the treatment of women all over the world is something that has always had to be identified. Certainly, in the country of Haiti where I work, in Africa, in the developing world, it’s been a hard time for women. I also think how do we display ourselves? How do we present ourselves as women? What are we asking? Are we asking for it by presenting all the sensuality and all the sexuality?”

“You look at everything all over the world today and how women are dressing and what they are asking by just presenting themselves the way they do. What are they asking for? Trouble”, added Karan.

The reactions appeared within hours

TV presenters Megyn Kelly and actresses Mia Farrow as well as Rose McGowen, the first to reveal how Harvey Weinstein is really like, announced they would no longer buy Donna Karan products.

At the same time, over 8.000 people signed a petition to ask Nordstrom to stop selling DKNY products.

In addition, the shares of Donna Karan International have dropped by 10% from last week, notes The Washington Post.
