We live an era in which women have a lot to say and want the world around them not to see them only like these beautiful beings, able to turn into good mothers and wives.

I fully agree with this move and it is time to get out of the Middle Ages and to redirect our attention towards concepts such as equality, respect and understanding far from sexism or misogyny.

A few days ago, all the press was writing about these NSFW ads where men were used as props, and women approached these power positions, and now I’ve come across a news that has caught my attention: Sweden is currently organizing the first music festival exclusively for women, “Men-free”.

Also known as the Statement Festival, the event promises a safe spot for all guests, which basically means men are not invited.

The festival runs a campaign on Kickstarter to cover its production costs, and it is curious if enough money is gathered to evolve from theory to practice.

The idea started when Bråvalla, the biggest music festival in Sweden, was canceled.

The Swedish comedy Emma Kynckare proposed to organize this “no-men” event.

The context is stronger – Sweden’s music festivals have problems to ensure the safety of the participants.

Last year, over 40 sexual harassment were reported shortly after two of the country’s music festivals have taken place and most of them occurred at Bravalla.

In 2017, the Swedish police said they had received complaints for four raping attempts and 23 different sexual harassment reports.

“Certain men … apparently cannot behave. It was a shame, so we decided to cancel Bråvalla 2018 “, the festival organizers have said.
