The authorities in Rome have opened to the public the top floor of the Colosseum, and tourists can now enjoy the arena view and the city’s skyline, reports The Telegraph.

The amphitheater where the gladiators battled until one of them was killed, is one of the main touristic attractions of the capital of Italy and the world.

Starting with 1st November, tourists will be allowed to visit the top floor of the Colosseum and to come 36 meters high.

The last floor of the Colosseum, the fifth, was reserved for the plebeians, who watched the battles from the wooden benches, unlike the senior officials who stood comfortably on their marble benches.

“Wild animals were kept in the underground tunnels and they were not fed for days.

So, when they were released from the cages, they were probably scared. The carnage was terrible and the smell and the noises were terrible”, says director of the Colosseum Rossella Rea.

Six million tourists visit the Colosseum annually, and soon they will also benefit from the most spectacular panorama over the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill.
