The Israeli police arrested the Palestinian after he posted on Facebook “Good morning” in Arabic.

After spending several hours at the police station, the authorities have determined the responsible is, in fact… Facebook.

The social platform’s translating algorithm apparently mistranslated the message written in Arabic into “Attack them!”, instead of “Good morning”.

After a few hours, the man was released.

The misunderstanding was “clarified” by the Israeli police after they released the “suspect”, adding they believed the Palestinian tried to incite the people to violence, but without providing further details.

According to an article published in Haaretz, whose content was neither confirmed nor denied by the police, the Palestinian published a photo with him sitting on a bulldozer in Israel, in the Beitar Ilit province.

The image was accompanied by the phrase “Good Morning” in Arabic.

However, the translation algorithm interpreted the message as “Attack them” in Hebrew and “Do Evil” in English.

It is unclear how such an error was even possible, considering the lack of any apparent resemblance between the Arabic expression and the mistaken translation into Hebrew and English.

The disturbing incident occurred last week and, in the meantime, the Facebook post was deleted.

“A few days ago, a Palestinian was arrested for questioning, under suspicion of incitement (through violence) via his Facebook page”, stated Luba Samri.
