US Army coalition commanders announced they defeated the Islamic state on Tuesday, banishing jihadists from the capital of Raqqa after four months of fighting

The struggles have ended, and the alliance of Arab and Kurdish forces has completely “cleared” the area of jihadists, said Rojda Felat, commander of the Raqqa campaign for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Kurdish commanders say that 99% of the city was released

3.250 people would have been killed during the battle for Raqqa, including more than one third of civilians.

The official proclamation of the victory over the former ISIS capital, Raqqa, will soon be made once the city is cleansed of anything connected with the cells of the Islamic State Organization, Talal Silo, the spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces has revealed.

The soldiers have removed the black flag of the Islamic State from all Raqqa’s buildings.

The Islamic state has lost most of its territories from Syria and Iraq this year, including the most important possession, Mosul.

In Syria, the organization was forced to return near the Euphrates Valley, an area surrounded by the desert.

SDF, backed by a US-led international alliance, fought since June to take control of the jihadi-controlled city.

A witness told Reuters that fighters celebrated on the streets chanting slogans. In addition, fighters and commanders celebrated the victory in the middle of the ruins.

A clip with the joyful reaction of a woman in Raqqa, shared by the Kurdish forces, quickly became viral on social networks.
