The movie ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, based on a book written by J.K. Rowling, was a spectacular debut in the North American box office, gaining over $75 million in the first weekend of broadcasting, according to the figures provided by Exhibitor Relations agency, informs AFP.

Created five years after the last production of the series ‘Harry Potter’, the Warner Bros movie is neither a sequel nor an introduction to the fantastic series ‘Harry Potter’, but a reproduction of the manuscript that belonged to Potter, that was left as a living proof to all freshmen at Hogwarts.

The movie presents the adventures of the ‘magi-zoologist’ Newt Scamander and various stories of witchcraft and magical creatures wrecking New York in the ’20s.

Another movie that made it to the top is ‘Doctor Strange’, which was proclaimed second best in the third week of playing in the theaters. The film tells the story of a neurosurgeon, Stephen Strange, whose life changes radically after a car accident.

Facing the limits of modern medicine, he starts a journey, heading to Kathmandu, where he discovers a mystical world. Doctor Strange unleashes his magical powers and enriches his spiritual life, preparing to become the most powerful wizard in the universe.

The animation movie ‘Trolls’, released by DreamWorks Studio, dropped on the third place in the top ranks last week. Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick are the main voices of this movie, that gained over 17,5 million dollars this weekend and 116,2 million dollars since the release.

The ultimate war movie, ‘Hacksaw Ridge’, directed by Mel Gibson, gained its sixth position in the box office after last weekend and scored 6,8 million dollars. The movie tells the story of a WWII American army doctor, Desmond Doss, who served his country, despite his refusal of bearing any arms.
