Professor Saleh Muslim, detained by the Turkish authorities

The Turkish authorities issued a warrant on Tuesday for the arrest of co-chairperson of the Democratic Party or PYD Saleh Muslim.

According to the officers, Saleh is linked to the attack committed in Ankara in February that targeted a military bus, announced Anadolu Agency, quoted by AFP and Reuters.

The Turkish Court of Justice demanded the arrest of 48 suspects, including numerous leaders of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK Kurdish rebels in Turkey), an organization classified as ‘terrorist’ by the Ankara Administration.

Another organization, PYD, also classified by Ankara as ‘terrorist’ is a part of the Arab-Kurdish coalition, who fights against jihadists from ISIS in Syria, with the support of Washington.

Turkey, who is a member of NATO was infuriated by this support. The Syrian Kurdish militants believe this is an extension of the outlawed PKK, who led an insurgency for three decades in the Kurdish community from south-eastern Turkey.

In February, the police detained 17 suspects committed in the center of Ankara and resulted in 28 deaths.

The identity of the suspects was not disclosed but they were discovered in seven different Turkish provinces. The driver of the bus was a Syrian citizen and a close member of the YPG organization.

At that time, the accusations were denied by Saleh Muslim and by his close friend Cemil Bayik. The professor became involved with the Kurdish movement during the 1970’s when he was studying engineering at Istanbul Technical University. Following university he worked as an engineer in Saudi Arabia before returning to Syria in the 1990’s.
