The First Lady of the United States won the lawsuit against British paper Daily Mail
Now, the tabloid is forced to pay up $3 million because they lied and tarnished Melania Trump’s reputation.
Daily Mail is willing to cover the staggering compensation after they deleted the article in which they accused Melania Trump of working as an escort before her marriage with the American tycoon.
The controversial news was published during Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and the president became furious, promising to destroy the UK paper.
Initially, when she filed against Daily Mail she claimed compensations worth $150 million.
However, after a series of negotiations and debates, Melania Trump decided to accept the amount suggested by the British lawyers, accompanied by a public apology.
On Wednesday, a few hours after they reached an agreement, they express their apology regarding the controversial article and the unfounded rumor published on 10th August 2016.
‘The Mail Online website and the Daily Mail newspaper published an article on 20th August 2016 about Melania Trump which questioned the nature of her work as a professional model and republished allegations that she provided services beyond simply modeling. The article included statements that Mrs. Trump denied the allegations and Paulo Zampolli, who ran the modeling agency, also denied the allegations, and the article also stated that there was no evidence to support the allegations. The article also claimed that Mr. and Mrs. Trump may have met three years before they actually met, and “staged” their actual meeting as a “ruse.”
We accept that these allegations about Mrs. Trump are not true and we retract and withdraw them. We apologize to Mrs. Trump for any distress that our publication caused her. To settle Mrs. Trump’s two lawsuits against us, we have agreed to pay her damages and costs’ – published the paper.
