In July, Uruguay will become the first country in the world to legally introduce marijuana into their drug stores.

‘Starting from July, marijuana will be introduced in our pharmacies’, announced the official counselor of the Uruguayan Government and president of the National Committee of Drugs, Juan Andrés Roballo.

When he asked about the exact date, Roballo declared the controversial campaign will start in the first weeks of July.

Starting with 2nd May, a registry in which all Uruguayans and foreign citizens who posses a residency permit will be able to subscribe will be created.

The not-so-aggressive drug will be sold for $1. 30 per gram and each consumer will become able to buy a maximum quantity of 10 grams per week.

In December 2013, Uruguay adopted the most controversial law which allows people to obtain marijuana through the following methods: if you cultivate the plants in the privacy of your home, if you are the member of a club who owns a marijuana breeding or you can always buy it from a drug store.

The first two became popular decades ago and, now, the government also legalized the third one.

The unique law sparked a massive wave of criticism especially among the global organizations, who are constantly struggling to stop the trafficking of such substances.
