According to a new study lead by the Oxford University, hepatitis B and C could have a connection with Parkinson’s disease.
These two can lead to a great risk of developing Parkinson. The percentage is huge, about 75 per cent of those who suffer either from hepatitis B or C have the chance to develop Parkinson.
The manifestation of these two illness outside the liver is what can lead to this neurological disease. This virus already has the brain as a target and once it leaves the liver, the danger increases.
The number of people in the United States who suffer from hepatitis B or C is striking. Somewhere between 850K and 2,2 million people suffer from hepatitis B, while the ones that suffer from hepatitis C are in a greater number. Between 2.7 and 3.9 million people suffer from the C one.
In this new study, the team from Oxford looked at 100,000 cases that were raised since 1999 until 2011. They looked at a series of affections, including hepatitis B and C.
At all of the patients, they looked to see if later in life they developed Parkinson. They realized that the ones who suffer from hepatitis B are about 76 per cent likely to develop the neurological disease, while the ones that suffer from hepatitis C by 51 per cent.
About 44 per cent of the people whose record they investigated developed Parkinson. although the researchers were expecting a smaller number.
Experts are still not sure what are the exact links between these diseases. They are still looking for the causes that trigger Parkinson, which is one of the most complex illnesses.
