In Japan today its Premium Friday – a national campaign meant to encourage consumership.
In other words, the employees are encouraged to leave work at 15.00 and to serve dinner in a restaurant, to have fun in a club, to go shopping or to walk in a park.
Another purpose of Premium Friday is to help Japanese relax and alleviate stress, considering that 20% of the population works 80 extra hours per month.
Premium Friday takes place every last Friday of the month.
To promote the campaign, premier Shinzo Abe left the office earlier, at 15.30.
The diplomat attended a praying session in a temple from Tokyo and then he left to a concert, ending the night with a relaxing visit to the museum.
The low consumption rate is something that Abe must work on.
During the last quarter of 2016, the consumption rate decreased even more.
However, Premium Friday seems like an encouraging start to solve this problem because the business owners are taking advantage of this day to launch various offers and promotions.
The Japanese legislation is the penultimate state in the world when it comes to holidays and days off.
A beginner has the right of taking only ten days off per year and after every year of experience, you get an extra day.
Even if the number is very low, these workaholics are not vacationing at all.
Studies show some Japanese work even 14 hours per day and the main reason behind this insane lifestyle is their fear of losing their job.
