Consuming at least ten portions of fruits and veggies per day might prolong our life, suggests a study conducted by a team of British researchers from Imperial College of London.

They estimated the healthy habit might prevent the premature deaths of 7,8 million in every year.

The study involved other 95 reports which included data about the eating habits of two million people.

A portion means 80 grams of fruits and vegetables – the equivalent of a small banana, a pear or three teaspoons of spinach with beans.

The team of scientists identified the fruits and veggies with the property of reducing the risk of cancer and heart diseases.

To decrease the risk of cancer, the researchers mostly recommend green plants, yellow vegetables, and crucifers.

To decrease the risk of generating a cardiac disorder, apples, pears, citruses, salads and green plants are the best.

In comparison to consumers who don’t eat fruits and veggies on daily bases, the study shows 200 grams of vegetables and fruits will reduce the chances of getting a cardiac disease with 13%.

800 grams will reduce the risk with 28%.

In addition, 200 grams per day will reduce the cancer risk by 4%.

‘It’s been demonstrated that fruits and vegetables reduce the level of cholesterol, blood pressure, and the immunity system’, declared doctor Dagfinn Aune.
