The White House Correspondents Dinner is set to take place in a couple of months. Of course, the first couple needs to be there, but this year Donald Trump doesn’t plan on attending it.
The president made his plans clear in a tweet he posted yesterday. He simply wrote that he won’t attend it and he wishes everyone a great evening.
This event is organized by journalists that transmit news only from the White House and about the president. Usually, the event is hosted by a comedian that during the night pokes some fun at the one in charge.
These are obviously things that Trump doesn’t like. He hates to be mocked and have his image ruined.
It’s still unknown who will host the event this April.
Every president, since 1942, has participated at one of these dinners that take place annually. The former president, Barack Obama, attended all of them, eight.
The president of the event, Jeff Mason, responded to Trump. His organization respects the President’s decision. The event will continue and will celebrate the First Amendment. In his statement, he also states that independent media will be celebrated, as it has such an important role in a republic.
Also, some of the best journalists that covered politics will be celebrated for their work.
Trump’s decision is a reflection of his hate towards media. Lately, he lashed out at it every time he had the chance. He is mad at the way the media promotes his image and his actions.
His decision is a controversial one.
