Happiness is something everyone wants to reach in life, but getting there is not that easy. A Buddhist monk has a theory for being happy.
His name is Haemin Sunim and he used to be a college professor in the United States. His in a Zen monk and people always come to him for advice and inspiration.
The first thing you should do is slow your mind. Don’t put so much thought into everything, the key to being calm lays within yourself.
When it comes to the rest of the world, you don’t have to know everything that happens, because that would drive you crazy. Try to slow down and not think of everything. Be selective of your thoughts. Try not to overwhelm yourself and when you do, rest your mind for a while.
If you are hurt, don’t try to heal your wounds fast. Healing needs time. This will happen when the time is right, when the wounds are ready to heal.
If disappointed, betrayed by your close ones, again, rest your mind. Instead of putting too much thought, try to fill your time by spending it with your most loved ones.
Haenim thinks that having too many choices causes unhappiness.
The way you think reflects in the way you see the world. If you are happy and positive, then the world you see is also a positive one. But, if you have negative thoughts, the world will appear to you negative.
When taking an important decision, give it time. You will eventually found out what is the best choice.
So, the key is to slow down, give time and rest your mind. You’ll feel better.
Sunim exposes all his thoughts on his book, entitled “The things you can see only when you slow down.”
