The vice-president of the United States, Mike Pence, had a ‘Warren Beatty’ moment on Friday evening.
Mike Pence confused Nicaragua’s flag with Israel’s national flag in one of his Twitter posts in two supporting messages addressed to the Jewish people.
Shortly after he realized his monumental mistake, Pence deleted both messages.
On Saturday morning, most local papers published the caption with Pence’s Twitter post.
The most awkward part was that Pence was preparing to hold a speech at the Republican Jewish Coalition headquarters.
‘Our support for the Jewish people is not limited to the borders of our countries’, said Pence, who ensured that in his ‘POTUS’ term, ‘the world will know that the US was there for Israel’.
Pence added a ‘hashtag’ with the RJC emblem and two images: one with the American national banner and the second one with Nicaragua’s flag.
Although Nicaragua’s and Israel’s flags have many similarities, Pence’s confusion has no excuse.
Both flags have blue and white stripes, but Nicaragua’s flag has the national blazon in the center.
Meanwhile, Israel’s banner has as central piece the Star of David, one of the most famous symbols of Judaism.
Mike Pence’s confusion became viral on social media and the comments are the most hilarious.
