The latest controversy revolves around Academy Awards-winning actress Meryl Streep. According to the Chanel guru, Karl Lagerfeld, the actress refused to wear the brand after they didn’t want to pay her for wearing their creation.

To wear a certain designer to such an important red carpet, the actress wants to be paid.

This Sunday, Streep is nominated at the 88th edition of the Oscars. Chanel wanted to collaborate with her and dress her for the big event.

Karl declared that the actress refused one of the gowns created for her right a few days ago. The reason why? The money!

Streep eyed a dress from their latest collection and asked for some adjustments to be made. The brand respected the order and did so. After they already started making the dress, her staff telephoned them to stop everything as Meryl found someone willing to pay.

The gown was already supposed to be a gift to her, but paying her to wear it would have been too much. The dress is estimated at 100K dollars.

In their declaration, the brand did say that she is an amazing actress, but cheapness is not for them.

There are often cases when designers pay artists to wear their creations to such big events. The Oscars are probably some of the most mediated events of the year.

Since the claims were made public, Meryl’s team responded. The statement says that the claims are completely untrue. The actress would never ask or expect to be paid for this.
