On Monday, HBO is going to premiere a movie entitled “Cries from Syria”. The documentary is directed by Evgeny Afineevsky, who offers a brutal and real image of the impact the war, ISIS and Bashar Al-Assad have on the Syrian people.

The director believes that this movie should be watched by everyone, especially by the Americans. It is made of a series of videos taken from 2011 by locals and features their heartbreaking revelations.

Vogue interviewed Afineevsky and Kholoud Helmi, an activist from Syria, who had to migrate to Turkey.

Both of them have seen the horrors that are going on in the country. They think that the people from the West should see this as it offers a whole new perception over what is going on there, which is way different than thought.

They think that while countries that go through horrors themselves offer help to Syria, the West had closed its doors and seem to be oblivious to everything that happens there. For example, Israel, who took the injured into their hospitals.

On the other hand, the United States, which is the most powerful country in the world, has chosen to shut its doors permanently. Indeed, the ones in charge are responsible for this, but Afineesvsky and Helmi think that the change needs to come from everyone. If the people fight and take into account the administration, a change might happen.

This movie is meant to touch a soft spot. Trump is a father, the ones in charge are parents, seeing the children of this country in sufferance is not easy to see.

The director sees the hope and the need of change in the eyes of these children. Someone needs to help them have the bright future they hope for. Even offering them shelter is a step forward. Everyone has the right to live in freedom and in a democracy.
